ALEXANDRIA HISTORY & BEER
Start your day by taking a trip back in time visiting Lee-Fendall House, a beautiful example of 18th century craftsmanship and design. The property was originally owned by Henry “Light Horse Harry” Lee – American Revolutionary leader, ninth Governor of Virginia, and father of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. In 1784 he sold this town lot at the corner of Oronoco Street to his relative, Philip R. Fendall. For over 100 years, several generations of the Lee family occupied the home.
Our next stop on the tour will be the Mount Vernon Estate, home to George and Martha Washington. Located approximately ten miles South of Alexandria, in the late 18th century it was a world away. Enjoy the scenic drive as we wind our way down the George Washington Memorial Parkway to the property for two hours of self-guided time. While here you’ll be able to find out more about George’s distilling operation. There is a food court located here for a quick bite or snack before leaving for our last stop.
After learning about General Washington, board the van for a short trip back into Alexandria, where our final stop will be at the Port City Brewing Company, the first commercial brewery to open in Alexandria since the Portner brewery shut its doors in 1916. Enjoy a flight of their delicious offerings and spend about an hour here before we finish our trip at the King Street Metro Station to complete the loop.
Transportation, entry and tour of Lee-Fendall House, entry to Mount Vernon, beer samples at Port City, as well as water and snacks in between stops are all included for just $75pp. Come join us today for a fun filled trip through the Alexandria area to learn about some of the history and continuation of the brewing tradition.
